A Dozen Ways to Stay Calm

Blue Lake
Are you in control of your life? Getting frantic in your daily activities by rushing about from one task to another is a sure way to drain your energy and get stressed. Here are some effective ways to stay calm and collected:

1.      Breathe:  Breathe slowly and concentrate on your breathing is one sure way to bring calmness. Sit still and breathe in at a count of 5 and hold your breath at a count of 20 and breathe out at a count of 10. It is also an effective way to cleanse your lymphatic system.

2.      Exercise: Jogging is one of the best ways of doing aerobic exercise. According to an article,  7 Benefits of Jogging That You Didn’t KnowJogging or running on a treadmill can give immediate tension release by helping the release of brain chemicals that have a calming effect on our emotions.

3.      Mediate/Tai Chi/massage: Every day I wake up early in the quietness of the morning and I perform Tai Chi to start a new day to gain calmness and serenity. Practice Yoga is another marvelous way to obtain the same peaceful result. A body massage is soothing and relaxing and it is an excellent way to regain your balance.

4. In the moment: Avoid distractions and focus on the task at hand is a way to work calmly with concentration. Be interested in what you do and get into a flow is the most productive way to get things done.

5.      Be organized: I find that getting organized is the one effective way to stay calm. When I start a new day I know in advance what I want to accomplish because I have already prioritized my tasks in a to-do list. I do first thing first without hurrying and in a state of calmness.

6.      Be patient: Go slow and do not do things in a rush. Enjoy the process without overly attaching too much to the end result. Impatience hastens heartbeats and breeds stress.

7.      Free from financial woes: Avoid more wants in life, live a simple life, and live within your means. Getting into debt is a sure way to disturb your peace of mind. The unsettle debt will interrupt your mental calmness.

8.      Sleep well: A good night’s sleep is a sure way to restore your energy, repair damages done to your body after a stressful day at work. Cutting short your sleep is counterproductive and depriving you of staying calm during the day.

9.      Contentment: Appreciate what you have and be contented. An attitude of gratitude is another way to stay calm. Gratitude promotes inner well-being.

10.  Stay positive: A positive mindset generates confidence and poise in you. You are not getting anxious or depressed in difficult situations.

11.  Get away: Every week you are given a rest day. It is a day for you to disconnect, unwind and relax. Restore the calmness in you by going out in the open and embrace nature. Look at the blue sky on the beach and listen to the waves rushing to the shore. Walk the dog or spend a day in the wood to observe the wonders of nature.

12.  Drink water: According to an article, Can Anxiety Be Caused by Water Dehydration?
dehydration may affect anxiety in a variety of ways, but the clearest link is that when the body is dehydrated, it starts to function improperly. Hormones are unable to reach their destined locations because of poor blood flow. Muscles may tense up. Your brain may experience weakness or changes as a result of water loss (the brain is 85% water). So drink water throughout the day to stay calm.

The more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence, his
power for good. Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom.
