10 Things an employee wants



Research indicates that workers have three prime needs: Interesting work, recognition for doing a good job, and being let in on things that are going on in the company. ~Zig Ziglar

What does an employee want from an employer? These are the ten most important things for an employee.

1. Encouragement: Positive words are a source of motivation for an employee. He or she knows that they are doing right because positive words mean confirmation and approval.

Management is nothing more than motivating other people. ~Lee Iacocca

2. Adequately compensated: Employees want to be fairly rewarded. It is an indication that their contribution is worth the expected compensation.

3. Be informed: It is important to keep the employees posted about the development within the company. Employees are part and parcel of the company and they are to be treated as such. It is a way to show that you care for them.

4. Feedback: Employees are interested to know about their performance. It is wise to communicate regularly with them to confirm the status of their work. They will be happy to know that they are doing fine or they need to know which area of their work needs to be improved. Employees need regular feedback to strengthen their confidence

5. Give credit for their accomplishments: Credit should be given to the staff if an idea has been accepted by management. Recognition is an appreciation of their achievement.

People may take a job for more money, but they often leave it for more recognition.

6. Respect: Employees are human beings too and they want to be treated with respect. Treat them like what you want to be treated. Tact and Courtesy are the keys.

7. Scope for advancement: The employees must be able to see clear opportunities at the top for them to move up the ladder. Ambitious and talented employees will work hard and smarts to get the promotion they have aimed for.

8. Challenging job: Job satisfaction is the most important thing for an employee. A job should be given to match their abilities and talents so that they can contribute meaningfully and effectively.

9. Security: Employees are keen to know that the business is stable and profitable and they are able to secure long-term employment. They want to work with peace of mind.

10. Ongoing training: Employees are also interested to learn new skills so that they can take on new and more challenging assignments. They want to contribute to the company and be a valued member of it.
