7 Effective Steps to Take Action Now

Do it now

The greatest amount of wasted time is the time not getting started. ~  Dawson Trotman

Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy. ~ Dale Carnegie

Can you start jogging instead of watching TV now? Are you able to start work immediately according to your to-do list?  It is especially difficult to do something for the first time to break an old habit. However, there are several steps to kick start and take action right away.

  1. Decide: It is easier to do one or two things instead of too many tasks. It is even better just to do one thing at the exclusion of the rest for something that you really want to be. As an example, you want to be fit and healthy and you have decided to take up jogging.

  1. Think of the benefits: In order to motivate you to do something new like jogging, write down the benefits and look at them often. You will get more than just fitness and health. You will get a slimmer body with more energy in you.

  1. Be prepared: If you want to get started in jogging you need, at least, to invest in a pair of running shoes. Get ready for the event and don’t give yourself excuses.

  1. Just do it: Don’t wait for a perfect time because there is no better time and there will never be. The best time to do something new is in the morning. Just wake up and get up early and get into the right frame of mind.  Get started and enjoy the process without thinking of other things.

Rather than thinking "if and when", start doing, take action, stop talking about "if and when". ~   Catherine Pulsifer

Conditions are never just right. People who delay action until all factors are favourable do nothing. ~ William Feather

  1. A small step: To encourage you to start without hesitation, break down your tasks into bite-size pieces and do just one thing at a time. It’s so much easier to get started.

  1. Build daily habit: The harder it is to do a thing the more necessary it is to do it daily and develop into a new habit. There will be less resistance to put things off.

  1. Review:  You need to monitor your progress and look for improvement. After taking up jogging, are you feeling better than before? You will be more likely to continue to do something new when you are getting better and better. Celebrate your achievements and move forward.

Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.    ~ Benjamin Disraeli
